Description

Yoga Therapy for Asthma with Robin Rothenberg

Asthma affects approximately one in 22 people worldwide, and far more than their ability to breathe. A severe attack, or the fear of encountering triggers, can disrupt sleep, limit much-loved activities and undermine confidence. Likewise, mental health difficulties can worsen asthma: stress can affect immune responses and contribute to airway inflammation in some people with the condition.

Yoga’s extensive teachings and practices devoted to the breath offer a rich foundation for therapeutic support. Through individually adapted breathing practices, movement and relaxation, yoga therapy can support people with asthma in managing their breathing and overall wellbeing alongside medical care. For yoga therapists, the skill lies in knowing which practices to introduce, when and how to adapt them to the person.

Join internationally respected yoga therapist Robin Rothenberg for a live observation focused on supporting a client living with asthma. Director of Essential Yoga Therapy and author of Restoring Prana, Robin specialises in bringing together yoga and therapeutic breathing practices to support people with respiratory conditions.

A certified yoga therapist and trained Buteyko Breathing Educator, Robin combines her background in Viniyoga with her study of respiratory physiology and experience of working with clients individually. Her approach connects functional breathing, movement and yoga philosophy, attending to the relationship between physical health, habitual patterns and emotional wellbeing.

You will witness how Robin listens to and responds to the client’s particular experience, gaining insight into how she translates this understanding into a personalised therapeutic encounter.

Following the session, Robin will reflect on her approach and respond to questions, offering an opportunity to explore the reasoning behind her therapeutic choices.
